Construction Technology
Eggett Project Fall 2011
Over the past two months students in the morning construction class have been working on framing of the gambrel style 2 car garage with a loft located just outside of Schapville. Students have been hand-framing the walls, floors and also the roof. This type of framing is more common in traditional building, but is a great learning experience for the students to understand how to use geometry to layout rafters and floor system. In more modern framing, trusses would be used and a floor system with trusses or an engineered product would be used, but in this unique design trusses were not feasible. This project not only has given the basic framing skills but it also has been teaching them work ethic and teamwork.
