Former Graphics Student Gives Back to the AVC
by Irene Thraen-Borowski

Each year, AVC students have their picture taken and displayed in the lobby. This is never a small project, as every instructor needs to send their students to have their picture taken, the pictures need to be uploaded, printed, cut and then hung. Typically, Graphics Instructor, Irene Thraen-Borowski and her students run the entire process. Although this year, it had a new twist.
Ms. Thraen-Borowski contacted Sara Chwistek to see if she would be interested in coming back to the AVC and running the photo days. "I have kept in touch with Sara and immediately thought of her when I was brainstorming ways to make this task run smoother, while continuing to be a teachable event for my current students. I knew Sara would be a professional that my students could relate to and learn from." says Thraen-Borowski.
Upon being contacted, Sara immediately agreed to come back to the Jo Daviess Carroll Area Vocational Center and take on the project. She also brought back her professional portfolio.Once the pictures were taken, she presented to the current graphic design students about photography, marketing, college, art classes, and answered their questions.
Ms. Thraen-Borowski commented, "It was wonderful to have her back and see how much she has grown. When she was a student here, she was always passionate about photography and pushed herself. I can tell she is still doing that. It makes me very proud to know that she was able to develop the basic skills here, follow that through at the college level, and will soon fulfill her dream of being a professional photographer. She was an excellent resource to my current students."
The Jo Daviess Carroll Area Vocational Center would like to thank Sara Chwistek for donating her time, sharing her expertise and continuing to be part of the AVC family. We wish her good luck and a happy graduation in May 2011.
