HOSA Students qualify for National Competition

Five Young Ladies and their Advisor Mrs. Karen Koester from the
Health Occupations Program at the Jo Daviess Carroll Area
Vocational Center in Elizabeth, IL competed on March 18-20, 2009 at
the State HOSA conference in Decatur, IL. The Health Education Team
included-Courtney Schultz-daughter of Marlo and Susan Schultz of
Galena, Tristen Hammer-daughter of Ron and Melisa Hammer of Apple
River, & Gina Kardaras-daughter of Jim Kardaras of Galena.
Amanda Near, the daughter of Melinda Near of Warren competed in
Interviewing Skills and Bryanna Lorenzen-daughter of Jim Hartney of
Warren, competed in the Job Seeking Skills competition.
The Health Education Team earned a third place medal and Amanda
Near placed third in Interviewing Skills, qualifying them for the
National Competition in Nashville,TN on June 24-27, 2009. Bryanna
placed in the top ten in the Job Seeking Skills competition.
While at the national conference the young ladies will be
interacting with approximately 3,600 Health Occupation Students
from around the nation as they compete in their selected contests.
They will also have the opportunity to obtain valuable information
through educational symposiums. The students will be working on
raising funds to pay for their trips. They will be glad to accept
any donations. Please contact Karen Koester at the Jo Daviess
