Early Childhood Education

After two busy years in the Child Care program, Celia is on her way to fulfilling her life long dream of working with young children. Celia graduated in May 2008 from River Ridge High School and enrolled in Highland Community College this fall in the Early Childhood Program. She has been a long time provider for child care in her community and plans to be a preschool teacher or open her own day care.
Celia credits the AVC as one of the reasons she chose this career. "I loved the people at the AVC! Everyone was so nice. On top of making friends I got to look further into the career I thought I wanted to go into. As it turned out the AVC just made me want to be in the Child Care field even more. I got to experience the field before going to college for it. It gave me a big heads up for what I was getting into. The Child Care class prepared me better than any other class could! I give full credit to Mrs. Zigmont and a big thank you for the staff at the AVC."
Celia had an opportunity to experience it all. Completing lesson plans, putting up bulletin boards, planning, teaching and supervising activities. She'll never forget the smiles on everyone faces as we ended a very successful field trip that she planned from start to finish. "I had to do everything I would do if I had my own preschool."
"If you're interested in going into the Child Care field, Mrs. Zigmont is my recommendation to get you started."
