As the year kicks off, the Graphics students are already busy. Through the use of sketchbooks and project lists, students are exploring many big ideas and materials relevant to art making, as well as problem solving development, and larger world issues. A wide range of projects are in full swing, incorporating ideas of identity, fantasy, teenage culture, advertising, and diversity through the use of drawing, technology, painting, photography, and sculpture.
Based on students' interests, the Graphics Program is planning to have guest speakers throughout the year that range from filmmakers to graphic artists. These professionals will offer valuable insight to professions within the field of art and act as role models for the students. These partnerships may even spur project ideas. "We are always looking for ways to partner with professionals in the field, as well as be part of the local communities," states Thraen-Borowski.
Many of the seniors are applying to colleges. Some of our students have already been accepted to schools such as the Art Institute of Illinois.
