Do you like to build things? Do you like working with tools? Would you like a career that pays well? Then the Construction Trades Technology Class, offered at the JDC-AVC might be perfect for you.
For over 30 years, the Area Vocational Center in Elizabeth, Illinois, has offered students from 6 participating home schools, the opportunity to build beautiful, full sized homes in Jo Daviess County and, particularly, in the Galena Territory area. These completed structures are then placed on the market with a local realtor to be sold, and you can take pride in that part of the effort too.
This 2-year course offers experience in almost all facets of the building trade, including plumbing, wiring, siding, roofing, insulation and drywall. In addition to careers in Carpentry, there are always openings in the fields of Architecture, Drafting, Designing, Masonry, Painting and more.
Since the building industry is the largest trade in the U.S., as a tradesman, there will always be a need for your expertise. You could choose to be self-employed, you could work for different contractors or you could be a full time employee for an established construction company.
Whatever field of construction interests you the most, remember that the learning process is easy when you do it the 'hands on way', which has always been our trademark here at the AVC.
