AVC CAD/GIS Student is Winner in AIA Contest!

Rockford March 7, 2007:  Stephen Strecker, a CAD/GIS student at the Jo Daviess Carroll Area Vocational Center was awarded third place in the Northern Illinois Chapter American Institute of Architects 2007 design competition. The competition challenged students to design a sustainable public library facility.

Stephen, a junior at West Carroll High School, completed his design using several software packages available at the AVC. He also investigated and learned to apply sustainable building techniques in executing his design.

The competition included over seventy entries from high school students throughout Northern Illinois. Judges remarked that the quality of presentation this year was the highest they had experienced in the 30 year history of the contest. In the judges  comments Stephen was commended for his use of sustainable design elements such as wind turbines, geothermal heating, and solar gain.

The AVC CAD/GIS class entered four designs in the contest. Other contestants include Steve Pettera, River Ridge, Andrew Murphy, River Ridge, and Nick Rosenstein, Stockton.
