Law Enforcement Students Get Cuffed
by Kathleen Speaker

The Law Enforcement class at the AVC had their first training session in basic handcuffing techniques. Over the next few weeks, the students will engage in essential, hands-on training designed to keep law enforcement officers safe on the streets when apprehending subjects and engaging in hand to hand combat.
"Starting with basic handcuffing is appropriate when keeping it in the perspective of a cooperative subject... which is what we have done this week", stated Mrs. Speaker, class instructor. Next we will incorporate basic self-defense techniques with the guidance of a 6th degree master martial artist. Combining the two types of training will provide students with the tools they need to be in full control of the scene of an arrest.
Students were amazed as to how much control they have using only a minimum amount of force, understanding appropriate body placement and what technique to use in a particular situation.
After the basics, we will incorporate speed-cuffing into our training. This will take hands-on, classroom training to a whole new level for the students.....and they can't wait!
